Hot Circuit Detectors: Benefits

Description:

Becker Mining America developed the Hot Circuit Detector to protect miners and prevent motor damage while aiming to maximize production. Malfunctions such as a broken contactor or a stuck mechanical contact can energize the circuit without being detected by the mine electrician. An anomaly can also be caused by a bottle or contact.

The device benefits the mine by providing indication and circuit breaker/contactor control when voltage or phase rotation is incorrect. The Hot Circuit Detector can indicate if all phases or any phases are missing, identify which phase is missing, and trip the circuit. It allows quick and easy determination of phase sequence (ABC or CBA) and checks if reverse sequencing can trip out the circuit.

The unit is available in 120VAC, 480VAC, or with an intermediate device to monitor voltages up to 38KV. It can be ordered with a 10A 240VAC normally open or fail-safe contact. MSHA requires the inclusion of fuses.

Benefits:

1. Protection against uncoupling of live circuits by miners.

2. Mine motors are protected from damage caused by reverse sequence or single-phase conditions.

3. Features that maximize mine production.

4. Redundant phase voltage indication.

5. Phase Rotation Indication (ABC OR CBA).

6. Circuit trip due to loss of phase function.

7. The circuit is reverse-rotated when the function is activated.

8. Panel or Coupler Mounted.

9. Self-powered.
